About Me

Hello, my name is Patrick Whitson. I started reading comic books when I was in middle-school and shortly thereafter started collecting them by getting a subscription to the comic book titles I liked the most. Some of my favorites to this day are – “The Avengers”, “Fantastic Four”, “Iron Man”, “Uncanny X-Men” and of course, “The Amazing Spiderman”.

I also met someone in my neighborhood, John Sassi (Hey John, if you are out there contact me at patrick AT comicbookcollecting DOT net) an avid collector, who at the time, had hundreds, possibly thousands of comic books (this was back in 1980-1981). Now, John understood the value of comic books as he had all his comics bagged, boarded and stored in long boxes.

My brother and I used to really dig going over to his house to look at his comic book collection – with our eyes bugged out of our heads of course! My brother and I were not as forward thinking as our friend John was. We just collected the books, read them and stacked them in a pile for later reading.

Well, time moves on, I moved away from my friend John to another neighborhood and although I still collected comic books, I got more involved in other activities since I was in High School. Once I graduated high school in 1986, I joined the U.S. Navy and I kept one long box of comic books for my reading pleasure – which I eventually sold to another shipmate who was collecting at the time (hey, I needed the money!).

Fast forward to 2002, I discovered eBay! I wandered about on eBay one day and was amazed at the comic book collectibles market that I found there. Ever since that time I have been involved in collecting comic books.

Selling Comic Books Through eBay Auctions:
Not only did I get involved in buying comic books, I also started selling comic books at auction through eBay. The “guru” who got me started selling comic books on eBay is Reynold Jay. I started off selling his graded comic books (check out his site, he has some of the world’s highest graded books) through eBay auctions and was his top salesman.

Once I bought enough to start selling my own comic books, I registered an ID at eBay (My eBay ID: **www.a1comic-books.com**) and have been, on a part-time basis, selling comics on my own. I don’t just buy and then sell comic books – I also own my own collection and add to it as I go along. This is where I am at today (April 2006) – still enjoying comic book collecting.
